is a new, exciting and revolutionary way to present beautiful data visualisations that depict human feelings and moods harvested from a large number of blogs! The automated mechanisms search the world's newly posted blog entries for occurences of the phrases "I feel" and "I am feeling", with which it then records the full sentence and identifies the "feeling" expressed in that sentence (i.e. sad, happy, depressed etc).

The different data visualisations available consist of a self-organising particle system, whereby each particle represents a single feeling posted by a single individual. The particless properties (size, opacity, shape, and colour) indicate the nature of the feeling inside, and any particle can be clicked to reveal the full sentence or photograph it contains. The particles move erratically around the screen until asked to self-organise along any nuymber of axes, expressing various human emotions.

Finally, it appears to have dawned on businesses that online advertising is more tangible and more cost effective than any other!

It has been reported that the US online ad spend will outstrip print for the first time this year, according to research.

Outsell (a Californian based publishing research company), predicts that US advertisers will spend $119.6bn (£80bn) on digital advertising compared with $111.5bn (£74.6bn) on print in 2010 because of the cost effectiveness of the channel.

It said of US brands’ collective $368bn (£246bn) 2010 ad budget, 32.8% will be spent online compared with 30.3% in print.

We recently stumbled across an organisation known as Atomic Labs and their product Pion Replay. If you haven't heard of these guys already, then definitely continue reading as it's about to change the way you go about getting MI for your online organisation.

Pion is effectively a packet sniffer which sits on the outside of your web server. Every request that is made to your web site is effectively proxied through Pion. The effects are staggering and have only previously been matched by the likes of Speed-Trap and Tealeaf (if you know Business Insight/Web Analytics, you would have heard of these companies before) which are commonly quite large investments for most organisations to swallow.

So, what is so special about Atomic Labs/Pion I hear you ask? Well, get a coffee and read on, you'll be signing up right away so you might be here for some time (the signing up takes 2minutes, it's what they can do that will keep you reading!!!). Very exciting stuff!

So, first up is Pion's Tagless Data Capture.

As you and I know, embedding javascript page tags onto every page is a costly, time consuming and error-prone process. Even when page tags are done correctly they miss users due to browser issues, reporting issues, server or spyware blockers. Worse yet page tags can even slow down the web page for the user. Pion’s passive capture capabilities ensure that you see users without expensive coding and without impacting the user experience. This approach cannot be blocked or mishandled by the browser ensuring 100% visibility all the time.

You then have Pion Real-time Data Processing

No more waiting for updates from IT when you need to capture new information. Simply login to Pion from any web browser and make instant updates to your rules using a simple drag-and-drop interface. Pion puts you in control of your own web analytics data

Are you tired of spending a huge chunk of time updating page tags rather than understanding your customers better? Do your web analytics numbers fail to add up? It no longer has to be this way. Pion is the light and agile alternative for web analytics data capture that relieves both you and your web site from the heavy burdens of excessive tagging.

As if it couldn't become any better, you also have Pion Web Session Replay

Pion Replay enables you to see your web site through the eyes of your users by providing you with a visual walkthrough of every page, object, submission and step from their point of view. You can walk through their session page by page or skip ahead to the interesting bits through the easy-to-use session browser. Pion Replay also allows you to see behind the scenes by exposing the server code returned to the user and details of how long everything took from their perspective. Since Pion is built to be highly scalable, Replay includes advanced search and storage to help you find the most interesting sessions out of millions quickly.

And as if you didn't already have enough to be excited about, you also have Pion Mobile Web Analytics

Your users are increasingly on the move, but can you see them? The majority of mobile web devices are invisible to traditional tags. Pion sees every mobile web user, every time, regardless of handset or microbrowser.

Mobile users have long been a blind spot for marketers, as most mobile devices in use today don't support the page tags and cookies traditionally used to capture web analytics data. Pion solves this by using advanced passive network capture techniques that ensure that you see every single mobile user coming to your site. Pion provides detailed data about each user and even lets you extract real-time data from their sessions and enrich user profiles with information from your offline sources.

Now there are even more things you can do with Atomic Labs/Pion but we don't want to stop you from visiting their web site to find out more about the organisation, so we will stop raving about their technology for now and just include a link for where you can go and discover for yourself. However, do be sure to check out their RSS Feeds Analysis, Cross Channel Analytics and Custom Solutions also.

Remember, Atomic Labs/Pion have partnered with Unica, WebTrends, Omniture and Google Analytics so the chances are, it will work with 65% of the current install base vendors and the visitors that are on your site right now!
